What you can do to help the CNMI recover from Super Typhoon Yutu - November 2018

Guam's neighbors in Saipan and Tinian continue their recovery from devastating Super Typhoon Yutu. If you're looking for ways to help, consider contributing to the following efforts:


Guam Zumba Instructor Network and MixxedFit

The network of dance instructors is hosting the Dance to Make a Difference: Baila Para i Mariånas Super Typhoon Yutu Relief Dance Fundraiser and Donation Drive on Nov. 17 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the University of Guam Calvo Fieldhouse.

Doors will open at 5:30 p.m. Tickets for the dance fundraiser are $10 each and can be purchased through the Guam network of instructors and will also be sold for $12 the day of the event.

Much needed items can also be dropped off during the event, such as tents, tarps, mosquito coils or nets, battery operated fans, rechargeable lamps, sleeping mats, towels, blankets, canned foods, water, flashlights, AA & D batteries and clean clothes.

Companies and individuals that wish to make a monetary contribution can make a donation on the GoFundMe page here. The organization is teaming up with the Sons of Saipan to ship the supplies to the CNMI.


Music Concert

Guam Department of Education teacher Francisco de Leon Guerrero is putting together different musicians and performers for a musical concert scheduled for 6 p.m. on Nov. 17 at St. Anthony’s. All proceeds go to the Ayuda Foundation's CNMI Typhoon Relief Fund.


Ayuda Foundation

Ayuda Foundation is collaborating with BankPacific to collect monetary and physical donations to provide basic necessities to residents in Saipan.

You can donate items or cash to support the purchase of the following products, to any BankPacific Guam branch to help your island neighbors in need:

  • Bottled water

  • Batteries

  • Flashlights

  • Non-perishable foods

  • Paper towels/ paper plates

  • Sleeping bags

  • Cots

  • Toiletries (soap, toilet tissue, feminine hygiene products, etc)

  • Tarps

  • Rope

  • Mosquito coils

  • Mosquito repellents

  • First-aid kits

  • Tools

  • Nails

  • Diapers

  • Baby wipes


The foundation is also working with Wendy's and Cold Stone Creamery, where cash donation boxes encourage customers to donate their spare change. Cash donations made in these boxes will be put toward purchasing and shipping the above-listed basic necessities to Saipan.


Prutehi Litekyan and Håya Foundation

Prutehi Litekyan and Håya Foundation are hosting a Super Typhoon Yutu Relief Drive.

Monetary donations can be made online at bit.ly/YutuRelief, under the memo "typhoon relief efforts."

You can also make the following physical donations for the drive:

  • Bottled water

  • Toiletries

  • Jar candles

  • Portable stoves/butane gas

  • Mosquito coils

  • Non-perishable foods

  • Hand sanitizer

  • AA/AAA batteries

  • Diapers/wipes

  • Baby formula

  • Blankets/towels


These items can be donated at the following drop off areas:

  • Health Shack in Hagåtña: Monday-Thursday from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.; Friday from 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; Saturday 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.; Sunday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • Guma Yo’åmte: Monday-Friday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

  • San Vicente School: Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Agat and Tamuning Mayors Offices: Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Guam Department of Education

The Guam Department of Education is holding a coin drive to raise funds for the CNMI.

Funds will go toward relief efforts, with a focus on helping schools and students.

Donations can be made in canisters at the main offices of schools and individual classrooms, through Nov. 14.

GDOE faculty, staff, students and parents are encouraged to participate.

Superintendent Jon Fernandez has been in contact with CNMI education administrators to see how GDOE can best help schools around the Marianas.

“Our hearts go out to the families and children impacted by Super Typhoon Yutu,” Fernandez said. “While Guam was spared from the most damaging conditions, Tinian and Saipan were severely impacted. This coin drive will help to provide relief to our neighbors in the CNMI, and will also help to teach our students about their community while instilling cultural values such as inafa’maolek.”


Mayor's Council of Guam

The Mayor's Council of Guam is spearheading a collection effort at mayors' offices in all 19 villages. The Agat Mayor's Office will be conducting a separate "money drive" for the island of Tinian.

Every mayor's office will be open during regular working hours to accept donated items:

  • Non-perishable food

  • Bottled water

  • Toiletries

  • Baby wipes

  • Baby/adult diapers

  • Towels

  • Flashlights

  • Radios

  • Portable fan batteries

  • Mosquito coils

  • Toilet tissue

  • Powder baby formula

  • Cleaning supplies

Guam Fire Department, Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense

Government of Guam agencies raised $28,945.88 for disaster relief in Tinian and Saipan, through a boot drive on Friday according to an Adelup news release.

GFD and Guam Homeland Security/Office of Civil Defense are accepting donations on behalf of GovGuam for CNMI relief efforts.

You can donate the following items:

  • Canned goods

  • Flash lights

  • Batteries

  • Tools

  • Tarps

  • Tape


Bank of Guam

All Bank of Guam branches are accepting cash or check contributions for relief efforts.

Those who would like to contribute should make the contributions payable to "Typhoon Yutu Relief." Since the passing of Typhoon Yutu, Bank of Guam has contributed $15,000 to Ayuda Foundation to airlift medical supplies for 10,000 patients.

Chamorro District Boy Scouts Guam

The Chamorro District Boy Scouts Guam are hosting a donation drive for basic necessities.

The following physical donations, in addition to anything else a donor sees fit, can be dropped off at the Boy Scouts Office, 280 N. Marine Corps Drive, by the Shell Station and K-Mart:

  • Non-perishable foods

  • Blankets

  • Clothing


Drop-off hours are 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.


Community First Guam Federal Credit Union

Community First Guam Federal Credit Union is collecting donations to assist Sons of Saipan to provide relief to those affected by Typhoon Yutu.

Sons of Saipan will be filling a 40 foot container with canned goods and supplies. Donation will be accepted at any Community First member service in Hagåtña, Tamuning, Dededo or Mangilao:

  • Non-perishable foods

  • Bottled water

  • Toiletries

  • Batteries


One Marianas

A partnership with multiple organizations, One Marianas-CNMI Relief Drive is collecting items to assist CNMI families who suffered from Typhoon Yutu. The drive is seeking the following items:

  • Canned goods

  • New or gently used clothing

  • Flashlights and batteries

  • Hammers and nails


Donations can be dropped off at the following locations, until Nov. 23:

  • One Marianas Relief Office, Calvo Building: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

  • Bonita Baby, Hagatna: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Barrigada Mayor's Office: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Agana Heights Mayor's Office: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Humutak Mayor's Office: 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

  • Republican Party of Guam Office

  • Air Force Recruitment Office


Pay-Less Supermarkets

Pay-Less Markets Community Foundation is hosting a "Typhoon Yutu Relief for CNMI" drive at all store locations. Until Nov. 28, customers cause support this cause by making a donation of $1, $5 or $10 upon checkout at any Pay-Less store. The Foundation will match the community's monetary donations in stores up to $10,000.

Pay-Less is also accepting non-perishable foods at all locations for the CNMI.

Monetary donations will be donated to the Håya Foundation relief efforts in the CNMI. Food items will be donated to the Ayuda Foundation's CNMI relief efforts for shipping.


Guam Macy's

Until Nov. 30, Macy’s Guam will offer customers the opportunity to round-up their in-store purchase to the nearest dollar (up to $.99) with all proceeds benefiting the American Red Cross of the Northern Mariana Islands’ Super Typhoon Yutu Relief Efforts.


GTA

GTA is accepting donations to support relief efforts in the CNMI. Items can be dropped off at any GTA retail location:

  • Batteries

  • Flashlights

  • Tape

  • Tools

  • Tarps

  • Nails

  • Rope

  • Mosquito coils

  • Insect repellant

  • Cleaning supplies

  • Adult/baby diapers

  • Wipes

  • Toiletries

  • Personal hygiene items


DOCOMO Pacific

Until Nov. 17, DOCOMO PACIFIC will be accepting donations at all retail stores to help families affected by Super Typhoon Yutu. Essential items needed include cases of water, canned goods, batteries, flashlights, lanterns, tarps/canopy, cots, coolers, mosquito coil/repellent and jar candles.

DOCOMO PACIFIC postpaid mobile customers can also donate money by texting 5 to “HELP (4357)”. Each message will donate $5 to the American Red Cross relief efforts in Saipan and Tinian.


Red Cross

Donations enable the Red Cross to prepare for, respond to and help people recover from this disaster. You can help the Red Cross respond to disasters like Typhoon Yutu by donating at redcross.org, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS, or mailing a check to your local office. The Red Cross-Guam Chapter is located in Building 285 on Route 4, Hagatna, across from the Agaña Shopping Center.
